First time ever to seek
counseling? Wondering what is
 an "L.P.C" or Licensed
Professional
Counselor?

According to the
American Counseling
Association, "A
professional counselor
is a person who has
earned a minimum of a
master's degree,
possesses professional
knowledge and
demonstrates skill in the
application of mental
health, psychological
and human development
and adjustment
throughout the life span.

Professional counselors
prevent, diagnose and
treat mental, emotional
or behavioral disorders
and associated
distresses that interfere
with mental health and
quality of life. They help
people of all functioning
levels grow mentally,
emotionally, socially,
educationally, spiritually
and vocationally.

What makes professional
counselors unique from
their peers in other
mental health disciplines
is their "wellness"
orientation. While
trained to understand
pathology and mental
illness, professional
counselors take a
preventative approach
to helping people and
are trained to use
treatment interventions
which include principles
of development,
wellness and pathology
reflecting a pluralistic
society."

Professional counselors
in Texas are state board
credentialed and
licensed to legally
practice. They complete
continuing education
annually for license
renewal and are
regulated by a
professional code of
ethics to protect client
rights and confidentiality.

I hope you find this information helpful   for your decision in choosing a professional. Please call if you have any additional questions.

Starting New Service

Welcome to KoKoRo Counseling
& Integrated Health Services
formerly @
LA’s WellBeing Center

"Electronic Informed Consent":

Thank you for your interest and choosing us for your health and well-being needs. KoKoRo Counseling has Masters-level trained mental health providers, called Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs). LPCs are board licensed in the state of Texas. LPCs may practice independently, either in person or via telehealth services. If you live anywhere in Texas, we can provide our services to you!

Most Masters-level Licensed Professional Counselors offer psychological counseling and sometimes psychological assessments. LPCs may practice in large or small, community counseling centers. They also counseling in medical clinics and their own private-practice settings. These services are for people of all ages and in individual, family, or group settings. Clients receive counseling face-to-face, either in-person and now by "virtual" telehealth.

KoKoRo Counseling & Integrated Health Services is a general psychological or clinical practice. Our clients range in age from 5yrs to 100+yrs. We see people as individuals, in couples, as families and in groups. Most of our work involves counseling psychotherapy. Counseling Psychotherapy is often referred to as "talk therapy." "Talk therapy" uses verbal communication. It helps people solve their personal, behavioral, emotional, mental, or relationship problems.

Some of our therapists provide psychophysiological, or "biofeedback" training. Biofeedback uses sensors for monitoring physiological nervous system reactions. These in include things like breathing rate, temperature or tension to name a few. Seeing how your body reacts helps you improve self-control called "self-regulation." Learning self-regulation skills helps you tame your over-reactive nervous system. This makes managing uncomfortable and strong physical or emotional symptoms easier! Many people find they more quickly & comfortably calm themselves when distressed. This often keeps symptoms from getting worse.

"I don't want to take any more medication" is something we often hear. Many clients choose biofeedback instead of medication. It's beneficial when one can't take medications (during IBF treatments, when Pregnant, with multiple medications already for chronic health conditions or elderly, geriatric patients). Others prefer and/or find success managing their symptoms with lower medication doses. This often helps lessen unwanted side effects. Most people find biofeedback is easy and fun. Your gaining better self-control over physical and emotional reactions is also VERY satisfying!

Psychotherapy comes in many different varieties. We make the best match of service for attaining your goals using the resources you make available to us. This is a combination of your time, motivation, finances, energy and commitment. If your goals are unclear, we strive to help you define them. If your goals or resources change in the course of treatment, we ask you please let us know as soon as the change occurs. We can then make appropriate adjustments and best serve your needs.

Honesty, candor, and trust are essential for the counseling process to work. The work of personal change can be anxiety provoking or uncomfortable. At times you feel you aren't making progress, when in fact, you are. We make every effort to provide a safe, nurturing, and informative environment. You must be honest with yourself and us. Lack of honesty will undermine your goals for your treatment and healthcare. We do our best in building trust at a comfortable pace. We ask you let us know about any feelings of discomfort. We'll then do one of two things. One, we'll make appropriate adjustments. Or two, we'll help you understand and trust us as if we recommend making no adjustments. We will not "on purpose" ask or suggest you do anything that causes you harm or discomfort.

Your treatment is confidential and privileged. We will not share why you are with us or the content of your sessions unless you give us your written consent. There are limits to this confidentiality. These include imminent danger to yourself or another. We are legally and ethically bound in these situations to break confidentiality. Also, we are mandated reporters of child and elder abuse and neglect. Some of you may use your insurance benefits to pay for part, or all, of your treatment. Insurance companies will often need disclosure of some confidential information. They use this information to justify your use of your benefits. Consider not using insurance if you have concerns about absolute confidentiality.

Our practice, whether doing psychotherapy or assessment, is clinical in nature. Our work with people is for resolving personal issues and difficulties. We are not a forensic practice. We do not specialize in legal documentation or assessment for legal purposes. If you need records for a legal purpose, we'll need a written authorization for release of information to the requesting entity. We'll forward a summary of your assessment or progress and not more than this. We recommend a forensic or psychological testing specialist if your main goal is for legal purposes.

Our full fee schedule is available in the office or in our secure portal. You'll have access once you've completed your registration. Our pay-as-you-go fees range from $295 for the initial consultation to $150 - $195 for on-going sessions. (We do offer discounted pre-paid plans or monthly -subscription rates--ask us.) Fees vary depending on the "code" or type of service provided. These are determined by the severity of your situation and your treatment plan needs. Regular sessions are 40 minutes face-to-face, plus 20 minutes for review and documentation. A longer session of 55 mins face to face with 15 min for documentation is also available. Couples and family sessions are available and start at 55 mins at $225. Again, all sessions provided are based on your treatment plan needs or goals for your individual, marriage & family and/or relationship or group counseling.

Insurance may or may not reimburse depending on factors including your diagnosis. Be advised, Marriage or Family Counseling for 'issues resolution' is not a reimbursable code. If the issues relate to a partner's or family member's mental health diagnosis, it may be reimbursable. If your insurance requires a Dr. referral or other info, please send it to us before your first session. We will do our own assessment within the first few sessions. This assessment is like the "lab work" you get when you go to your family doctor for an annual physical. We assess to support your diagnosis (no exceptions for those using medical benefits) & highly recommend it for all. It's biggest benefit is in creating a better, targeted treatment plan.

Fee for Service is available for counseling without a medical diagnosis. We offer Pre-paid, 'flat-rate' plans for affordability and as alternatives to using insurance. (Some Pro-bono & Scholarship rates are available case-by-case).

Full fees for pay-as-you-go services are due at the start of each session or pre-paid online. If you need a receipt, ask before we start your session. For "Out-of-Network" provider coverage, call your benefits plan and ask if you have it. If you do, you can submit your receipts for partial reimbursement. Ask us for a receipt, either for "out-Of-Network" and/or for documenting for reimbursement from your Health Savings Account. Admin time, for any reason, is billed at a one hour minimum with additional time added by quarter hr.

Some people submit and use their insurance benefits to pay for part or all of their treatment. Your insurance plan will have its own requirements and limitations for it's reimbursement. These may or may not coincide with the goals and purposes of your treatment wit us. We recommend you discuss and understand your coverage with your benefit's carrier directly.

We electronically submit both "In" & "Out-of-Network" benefit claims for you. In-network will pay directly to us (after deductible is met) & Out-of-Network will reimburse directly to you.

You are responsible for understanding your insurance coverage and how to access them. You are responsible for paying for the services you've scheduled at the commencement of your scheduled service. This includes any amounts not covered by your insurance. KoKoRo Counseling is participating as an "in-network" group on some insurance panels. Please check with your benefits. Any admin time supporting "out-of-network" benefit reimbursement is billed by the quarter hr. to a credit card on file.

Return appointments are scheduled in advance, at the end of each session. This is the best time to change the schedule if necessary. Cancellations require 48 weekday-hours, advance notice. If notice is less than 48 weekday hrs, a cancellation fee equal to the scheduled session's fee will be charged. We request voice confirmation with your therapist of your cancellation or reschedule request. Text, Portal Messaging and/or email for cancellation or rescheduling is not accepted.

Your participation in psychotherapy is voluntary. You may stop at any time. We agree with industry "best-practice", which recommends discussing this face-to-face before stopping therapy. This allows for referral or healthy closure of our working therapeutic relationship. This includes if your therapist decides you'd be better served by another provider. If so, we'll share this with you and discuss referral options with you before terminating services. We'll help you establish coordination of continued care with another provider.

Again, thank you for choosing our services. We hope we earn your trust in providing you and/or your family member the care you desire. We do all we can in supporting you in improving your comfort and well-being. We look forward to growing with you in your personal journey.
